Plumber installing a sump pump in a residential basement pit

A sump pump protects your basement from flooding and groundwater intrusion. You need sump pump repair or installation when the pump won't start, runs constantly, cycles noisily, or when there's no pump at all before spring thaw or heavy rain. This applies to residential and commercial basements alike.

Heaney Plumbing & Heating has been protecting Southeast Michigan homes and businesses since 1969. Our team includes Master, Journeyman, and Apprentice Plumbers licensed by Michigan LARA, fully trained and fully insured, so you can trust the work being done in your basement. We serve homeowners and business owners throughout Macomb and Wayne Counties, responding to sump pump concerns before they turn into flooded basements, damaged belongings, and costly cleanup. Whether your existing pump is failing or you've never had one installed, our licensed plumbers assess your situation and recommend the right solution for your property, without pushing unnecessary work or guesswork pricing.

Signs Your Sump Pump Needs Attention

Recognizing early warning signs can help prevent a flooded basement before it happens. Watch for these common problems:

  • Pump won't start: the unit fails to activate even when water rises in the pit.
  • Runs constantly or cycles rapidly: the pump turns on and off repeatedly or never seems to shut off.
  • Unusual grinding or noisy operation: strange sounds often signal a failing motor or impeller.
  • Visible rust or corrosion: an aging or corroded unit is more likely to fail when you need it most.
  • Water pooling near the pit despite a running pump: a sign the pump can't keep up with incoming water.
  • No existing sump pump before spring thaw or heavy rain: an unprotected basement is at risk during Southeast Michigan's wet seasons.

What Affects Sump Pump Pricing

Heaney Plumbing & Heating doesn't publish a fixed price list because sump pump costs vary by job. A technician provides an on-site assessment before any work begins, so you know what you're paying for.

Cost factors typically include:

  • Pump type, such as pedestal versus submersible.
  • Pit size and depth.
  • Whether new piping or electrical work is required.
  • The extent of existing damage or water intrusion.

We accept cash, money order, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express, and financing is available for qualifying customers.

Talk to Heaney Plumbing & Heating About Your Sump Pump

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I had a terrific experience with tech Bryan. Very knowledgeable, respectful and did the job right. I would really recommend Heaney and Bryan. Another large company tried to use untruths to sell me on unnecessary repairs, IMO. (Hoover). Bryan just told me what needed to be done, how he was going to do it, and what it was going to cost. 225 dollars compared to Hoover's estimated 6300 dollars. Def would use and recommend Heaney again.
